The 2009 Kids’ and Teens’ Korner Art Show is scheduled for Monday, May 4, to Saturday, May 9, at the Monroeville Mall with the awards ceremony at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The exhibit will be located at the Upper Level in front of the former Boscov’s store. Parents should use the front entrance by the American Café to bring the students’ art work on Sunday, May 3, at 6 p.m. Members of the Art Council will be there to accept the entries.
Monroeville Arts Council established the Kids’ and Teens’ Korner Art Show to encourage schoolchildren from first grade through twelfth to develop their artistic talents. The members have displayed their paintings and sculptures in the Monroeville Mall from Monday to Saturday for ten years during the first week in May, culminating it with an award ceremony on Saturday afternoon.
The show’s chair, Isabelle Ross distributes information and applications to the art teachers at Gateway School District. Each year, Monroeville Senior Center members assist MAC members by volunteering to monitor the show. They explain to visitors about voting for the Peoples’ Choice winner. More volunteers are welcome. Professional artists judge the students’ work, and MAC is grateful to Biondi Motors and the Monroeville Mall who provide the prizes for the awards.
MAC initiated the Kids’ Korner Art Shows in 1998, and chair Isabelle Ross added a Teens’ Korner to include older children two years ago. She can be contacted for additional information and an application by calling 412-372-7784.
