Monroeville Arts Council (MAC) was incorporated in 1981 as a non-profit organization. Its mission is to encourage growth of the arts in the community.
From its inception, MAC has worked to provide leadership and nurture development of creative projects in the arts. Early programs were Orchestra Nova (nine years), OnStage (a four-year program of theatre presentations) and the Greater Monroeville Arts Festival (a 12-year prelude to eight years of SummerFest).
Today, our current long-lasting programs in partnership with CCAC Boyce Campus are the Pops Summer Concerts, our series of family concerts for 25 years (now inside in the air-conditioned Boyce Auditorium); and the 20-year-old Art Show, now the largest in the Eastern Suburbs.
In partnership with the Monroeville Mall, MAC held the Kids’ Korner Art Show for ten years, the new Teen Corner Art Show and the year-around Pops for Kids, now in hiatus. MAC also has a nine-year special arts partnership with Sunrise School. Biondi Lincoln Motors has co-sponsored the Kids’ and Teens’ Korner Art Show and has held a sparkling MAC members’ party the past two years.
From 2000-2007, MAC joined the Municipality of Monroeville and the Boyce Campus of CCAC to present the annual family SummerFest. In 2008, MAC marked a new partnership with the Municipality. Its goal is to present at least one Pops Concert each summer at Tall Trees Ampitheatre in Monroeville Community Park.
MAC has provided grants to the Performing Arts for Children, East Suburban Artists League, Orchestra Nova, Monroeville Chorus and to local artists, as well as scholarships to Gateway Senior High School students. The Mel Pollock Arts in Education Scholarship, established in 1993, is awarded to a student in the arts at Boyce Campus.
Monroeville Arts Council is always striving to improve the quality of the organization, develop stronger ties with the entire arts community, build stronger partnerships with the corporate and municipal sectors, and continue as a supportive and innovative resource for arts programming in the greater Monroeville area.
