The Monroeville Arts Council is searching for a few good men and women to achieve its goals of bringing visual and performing arts to the Monroeville area.  The organization functions through the volunteer efforts of its officers, board members and members.

The vacancies on the board that need to be filled at this time are recording secretary, treasurer and member-at-large.  The board meetings are held once a month for two hours at the Monroeville Public Library on the second Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.

Can we count on you to volunteer your time and talent for just two hours a month for the meeting and another hour to fulfill your office duties?  In doing so, you will be contributing so much to help the community enjoy summer concerts and two art shows, one for adult artists and another for talented children while making satisfying contacts with energetic and stimulating people.  MAC board members are also excited about their newest activity: sponsoring a group called Jr. MAC whose focus is encouraging Gateway Senior High School students to participate in the arts.

Here’s an opportunity to become more active in the community and meet new people.  Please call Marilyn Wempa and she will be glad to answer any questions you may have.  We look forward to hearing from you, whether you want to volunteer for an active role or whether you would rather just be a member.  Marilyn’s phone number is 412-373-7794.

These activities include an annual Art Show, a Pops Concert Series, children’s art show, special musical presentations, and presenting monetary awards to Gateway High School seniors and to CCAC Boyce Campus students.

You can learn more about the Art Show, Summer Pops Concerts, Kids’ and Teen’s Korner Art Show, Muse Letter and Student Awards by exploring the Web site’s menu and viewing the Photo Gallery.

To gain a working knowledge, you may want to attend a board meeting at the Monroeville Public Library. They are scheduled for the second Wednesdays of the month at 7 p.m. Come and meet the board members to find out what’s new. Of course, there’s no obligation expected.

Members are not obligated to attend any meetings or join committees. Your support will be welcome, whether you are an active participant or one that just enjoys getting MAC’s newsletters and discounts to art and musical events. Your joining will help when MAC applies for grants to support its activities and events. We hope you enjoy your visit.

ABOUT MAC

Monroeville Arts Council (MAC) was incorporated in 1981 as a non-profit organization. Its mission is to encourage growth of the arts in the community.

From its inception, MAC has worked to provide leadership and nurture development of creative projects in the arts. Early programs were Orchestra Nova (nine years), OnStage (a four-year program of theatre presentations) and the Greater Monroeville Arts Festival (a 12-year prelude to eight years of SummerFest).

Today, our current long-lasting programs in partnership with CCAC Boyce Campus are the Summer Pops Concerts, our series of family concerts for 25 years (now inside in the air-conditioned Boyce Auditorium); and the 20-year-old Art Show, now the largest in the Eastern Suburbs.

In partnership with the Monroeville Mall, MAC held the Kids’ Korner Art Show for ten years, the new Teen Corner Art Show and the year-around Pops for Kids, now in hiatus. MAC also has a nine-year special arts partnership with Sunrise School. Biondi Lincoln Motors has co-sponsored the Kids’ and Teens’ Korner Art Show and has held a sparkling MAC members’ party the past two years.

From 2000-2007, MAC joined the Municipality of Monroeville and the Boyce Campus of CCAC to present the annual family SummerFest. In 2008, MAC marked a new partnership with the Municipality. Its goal is to present at least one Pops Concert each summer at Tall Trees Amphitheater in Monroeville Community Park.

MAC has provided grants to the Performing Arts for Children, East Suburban Artists League, Orchestra Nova, Monroeville Chorus and to local artists, as well as scholarships to Gateway Senior High School students. The Mel Pollock Arts in Education Scholarship, established in 1993, is awarded to a student in the arts at CCAC Boyce Campus.

Monroeville Arts Council is always striving to improve the quality of the organization, develop stronger ties with the entire arts community, build stronger partnerships with the corporate and municipal sectors, and continue as a supportive and innovative resource for arts programming in the greater Monroeville area.
